How was your weekend? / Sunny / What is the weather like? / Fine / How are you coping with late-stage capitalism? / There are poppies popping up in the windowsill, herbs still waiting to germinate, and bees eager for the last frost / Are you distracting yourself, or are you facing our future in fright? / The mail has only been coming three times a week but our mailman always waves his frail hand when he sees me; I left him Calendulas in the newspaper holder / How are you connecting with your comrades? / I’ve been leaving food in the neighborhood’s free fridge / Where do you find community between clock-ins? / Humans are here to indulge in creation, dabble in one another, flirt with the curves and creatures of this terrain / It’s magnificent, isn’t it?


Maggie Bowyer (they/them/theirs) is a poet, cat parent, and the author of various poetry collections including Ungodly (2022) and When I Bleed (2021). They are an essayist with a focus on Endometriosis, chronic pain, and trauma. They have been featured in Bourgeon Magazine, Capsule Stories, Plainsongs Poetry Magazine, The Abbey Review, Troublemaker Firestarter, Wishbone Words, and more. They were the Editor-in-Chief of The Lariat Newspaper, a quarter-finalist in Brave New Voices 2016, and they were a Marilyn Miller Poet Laureate.
